GMS 76

My 76 died on me yesterday, the club "pro's" think the ring is bad, there seems to be no compression when I flip the prop. Although as I recall there never seemed to be much compression when it was running either.

My question is what do I look for on the ring when I get it apart? Will it be obviously broken?

Thanks

Look for wear patterns. It may not be broken buy may not be round. Last see this...

The oven trick worked great to remove the sleeve, the ring looks OK, and can be easily removed, the piston has what looks like a wear pattern or groove on the side where the connecting rod hole is. Rough to the touch on that whole side of the piston.

Should I replace the piston?

Also how does the rod connect to the piston?

Thanks for your help.

The .76 we sold had a snap ring, I don't know what the ones tower sell has.
