McCoy 29 timer

Postby gw4u » Sun Feb 27, 2005 6:40 am

Can anyone help? I require either a complete timer, or some good drawings, or some good pictures in order to fabricate one myself.

Timer

Postby max hansen » Sun Feb 27, 2005 3:16 pm

I think it would be a little tough to make one . Burnis L. Ray has one listed in his catalog ,( BurnisR@aol.com ) McCOY timer assy complete # R-2920 for a red or black one . The arm may be extra. Hope this helps , MAX H.

McCOY

Gordon , Does your engine have the right crank & front housing for ignition ,you can't just add a timer to a glow engine. MAX H.

McCoy sparkie.

Hi Max,
Yes it's definately a spark ignition motor. front bearing housing slotted to access the cam and front bearing machined for the timer. I've been playing with spark ignition since 1947 so I know what I'm about. Thanks for the concern however.

Mc COY

Postby max hansen » Mon Feb 28, 2005 12:24 pm

Gordon , I just wondered as I have an extra front housing if you would have needed it . I have a McCOY .36 Sportsman Jr. that has ignition on it & it uses the same timer but they turn it around & it is driven off a special drive washer ,kind of different as Mc COY never made such a thing . Burnis Ray has a lot of good items & some of his are NOS. Good Luck, MAX H.

timer for a spark engine

Postby Tom Weedon » Tue Mar 01, 2005 11:57 am

I'm wanting to build a timer for a replica sparky that I'm building, but the plans call for tungsten points. Now where do I get tungsten to make some points? :?:

points

Tom , I think your best bet is one of the vintage engine parts suppliers or look in the old car swap meets for car points . Adapt them to your use instead of trying to make your own .Besides I think a lot of them were just hard steel. Good luck , Max H.

I have used tungsten TIG welding electrode to make replica points from. It silver solders easily and outlasts the old steel and bronze ones even with the original ignition system.
