Rain in engine

Postby Handy Randy » Tue Feb 03, 2009 10:31 am

I have a diesel tractor that was left outside without a cap on the muffler. Rain ran down into the engine. I'd like to put diesel into the exhaust manifold to loosen the engine, like I would with a gas engine and let it set before I turn it over. Can I get compression release by loosening the injectors?

You did not say what engine you have there, but yes you can losen the injectors to release compression. Is the engine seized? Not an airplane engine but right up my alley.

right up my alley, iam a farmer.best pull the head and check the bores,as the water will cause rust.when the pistons on BDC try to rotate to TDC they will stuff the rings. If the motor has a turbo water will have damaged the turbo.,not to mention the valves.Save yourself money now,PULL the head off and look before turning the motor over.good luck,I guess a $ 2*50 rain cap looks pretty good by now.?been there done that,,.
