i am new to these old spark engines. this might be a dumb question but what is meant by a slag engine. :roll:

They were cheap all aluminium engines that have aluminium pistons running directly in aluminium bores!
They were made to a price
They tended to be made of low grade alloys that were called pot metal or slag
I stand to be corrected, but that's my understanding of how the term came about.

Syncro, Buzz, Thor and Rogers being some that come to mind.

Yup, aluminum piston in an aluminum cylinder. If you got one started you just wore it out.

The conrods in some of them were just a sheet metal stamping. I have a Bullet and a Thor and they never had compression to start with.
