Disassemble McCoy .19 (series 21)

Postby mrrob » Sat Oct 04, 2008 12:48 pm

I need to replace the gaskets on my McCoy .19 engine. The gasket set came with three gaskets - one for the backplate, one for the head, but I'm not sure where the last one goes. I'm assuming between the cylinder and the lower crankcase, but I can't determine how to disassemble these two pieces.

This is the style of engine I have...

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Yes, the 3rd gasket goes between the liner and case. To dissassemble, remove head and back plate. Now the cylinder needs to be removed and it is a tight fit into the case. You will need to heat the case, best way is with a heat gun. Gradually you will be able to move the cylinder a bit, keep heating. It should slide right out. Make sure you put a mark on the back of the rod for your reference in case it comes off the crank. Pay special attention to reinstalling the sleeve, make sure the exhaust ports face the exhaust and not the intake. Look closely and you will see. Take your time and do a nice job.
