Fox 15

Postby Bob Mears » Thu Jan 06, 2011 6:04 pm

I've recently acquired my fathers old engine collection. In it is a Fox 15, with the case split vertically. It has bolts running through the mounting lugs holding the front and back together, along with a couple more bolts about half way up. I've never seen such an engine. Does anyone know when it was built, and how rare it may be?

Check again. The only Fox with a split case in that size range was a 19. It came a as a single needle or a two speed. Made in 1953. As far as rare, I don't know. I've never seen one.

Sells for $125 to $150 at MECA, Poor design and couldn't keep gaskets between the halves. For a buck you could send it back and get a one piece case engine. Many were returned so there probably aren't many around these days. Want to sell it?

I'll look again tonight and make sure if said 15 or 19.
I'm thinking about listing it on ebay.

Well, I looked and there's no markings on it saying what size it is. But it must be around the 15 to 19 just by looking. I'm sure its a 19 since you already know more about it than I do. It seems to be in good shape. great compression. I'm sure its like new since its obvious this poor design probably wouldnt run long enough to wear out.

Yep, thats the one. I'll watch and see what it brings. What are you expecting it to do? Ebay is so strange. I sold a cyclon pc4 for 180.00. so I put another one one there...brought 80 bucks. I just sold a cyclon fortune 15 for 150.00. put another one on and it looks like its only gonna bring 100.00. Same motors in excellent shape. Ya just never know.

Fox "Splitcase"

Postby max hansen » Sun Jan 09, 2011 5:37 pm

Bob, I don't really know just what it will bring. The Anderson Blue Book shows from a $100.00 to $360.00. I have a reserve on mine so it won't go real cheap. You got one & I got one ,wonder where the other 48 or so are at ?
I doubt if anyone can figure out what or why things sell like they do on eBay or other places.
I would like to find a item new in the box ,has a Ford emblem on it & is held on with one screw. Ebayers would go nuts!
Hang in there . Max H.

You should see what Cox Babe Bee 049's have sold for on ebay. And Cox only made 25 million of them. I saw one go for 75 bucks.

RX8Guy. I havent had a store long. Just decided I had way too much stuff that needed to go. I have a buch of 1/2A combat motors that I've sold and still plenty to sell. And a lot of Fast Combat motors too. Fox 36's mostly. So far I'm not willing to part with my Nelsons or my Wiley's.

They were $250.00 And I understand now that Alexander Komokav (spelling?) is not going to produce any more engines. I've still got a couple of pc5's that I will sell, 10 pc7 and 7m's that I just cant let go of, 3 Zalp's, 10 AKM's, 6 Foras. Got motors everywhere. All I need is 6 top notch motors to compete. I prefer the PC7's but he quit building those about 5 years ago. Guess I'm going to switch to the Fora's

Fox

Postby viking61 » Tue Jan 11, 2011 7:43 pm

Old combat ships WOW !! I have one Sport special I worked on and got it running pretty good. Foue C/S's in good shape, and one maybe unrun.
Last is a RC with bearings. Sorta like a JBB with a carb. I saved the carb and have parts to another, The engine looks just like C./S but compression was not as hi. It will hold a seal for very long time so P/L are good. One of the C./s put some airtime in a Ringmaster.

I'm surprised its as low as it is. I think they're worth more than that to just look at what a piss poor of an idea it was!

fox 19

Postby max hansen » Fri Jan 14, 2011 7:37 pm

Bob, I guess that there must be only 48 Fox collectors & they all have one . You & I have the other two. Guess I will keep mine . I do think selling with no reserve brings more bidding & higher prices. Sometimes you win & some you lose. Like I said ,it needs a FORD emblem on it . CYL, Max H. :(

If you read what it says in the blue book you would see that Fox would give you a new engine if you sent the old one back. Being that it was a poor design, I would bet that many of them were sent back to get one that would work. That means there aren't 48 others out there. Probably very few.

The bottom is dropping out of the collectable engine market, just like baseball cards a few years back. There are a lot of old collectors passing away and their collections are being liquidated. I know of one collection that was appraised at $99,000 three years ago is only going to bring about $40,000. Now all the old guys are panicing and dumping their stuff. I was at the MECA national meeting in October. One of the stunning statistics was the membership averages 72 years of age and is shrinking at about 10-15% per year. No new members are coming in. Nobody wants to collect newer (50's and 60's) engines because there are so many of them, they are cheap and most are looking for something that will appreciate. In this economy they won't. If you look at it as a hobby, it can be fun, but if you want to make money, it is a drag.

A Fox split case .19 ended bidding on eBay at $27 with two bids and the reserve was not met. I think this is a sign those old price books are way too optimistic. Engines are only worth what you can get for them, not what you pay for them.

fox & cox

Postby max hansen » Fri Jan 14, 2011 9:53 pm

Well troops the two Foxes were a no sale. Both are very nice old chugs even if they came with problems from the factory. The Cox MKII did good at 246.00 so maybe I should put Cox stickers on the Foxes ? Guess I will relist again later. Been on this old earth long enough to know you can't win them all. CYL, Max H. :?

I haven't seen any evidence of the "bottom falling out of the model engine market".

$246 for a Cox MkII is a good example of the bottom staying right where it belongs.

Have you seen what M&M's are gong for?
