Diesel prop size guide

Postby jc4x4 » Fri Feb 23, 2007 4:04 am

Silly question time - I used to see prop charts but cant find these anywhere now. Its all glow! Anybody know where a chart exists for recommended prop sizes for diesels? from small stuff (0.5cc) to bigger through the range? (1cc, 1.5cc, 2.5cc etc.). Thanks. :D

All depends what you want to do with them.

Diesels will turn a big prop, so if 'for fun' flying-----
.05cc---7x4 or 8x4.
1cc---8x4 or 9x4.
1.5cc---9x4.
2.5cc---10x4 or 10x6.

Competition type diesels that peak at higher revs could use-----
.05cc---6x3 or 6x4.
1cc---6x4 or 7x3.
1.5cc---7x4 or 8x3.
2.5cc---7x6 or 8x4.

That's what I feel is a general guide. To be serious you really need a 'road test' of a particular engine from a magazine to see at what RPM it peaks at, have a tachometer yourself and test various props. to allow it to rev about 10% below that figure, as it will unload in the air up to it's peak for maximum BHP----or is it Kilowatts in this day and age?
