What have I got here...?

Postby Gluehand » Fri Apr 29, 2011 5:20 pm

Hi,

I just 'won' this odd and mysterious engine at an auction (in Sweden).

Does anyone here recognise it...?...or parts of it...or design features that may point in a direction or another... :?:

Interesting engine. I think the slit in the front of the crankcase is to clamp an eccentric crankshaft bearing, which can be rotated to vary the compression ratio. This system was used on several earlier engines like Clan, Ouragan, MS 2.4., DA.
It would be very difficult to get a good seal for the two piece crankcase.

Hi Graham,
Yes, the bearing is eccentric, the up/down movement beeing just about 0.4 mm though. The arrangement is probably meant for fine tuning, not for regular use (I figure...).

The backplate sealing joint, yep it is complex, to say the least....although it is very well made...definitely not an ordinary amateur job....

It is indeed an interesting and mysterious engine....
