Prop Balancing

Postby jc4x4 » Wed Jul 15, 2009 12:56 am

Ok, its been a while so can someone remind me.......

Whats the best way to achieve a balance on a prop when balancing? Should material be removed from the heavy side blade? if so how and where? or should something be added to the light side blade? again. how and where?

Bit of a dumb question but I like balanced blades, kinder to the engine and airframe.

I can remember sanding and even cutting the tips on props when I was younger but I'm sure there is a better way! Thanks.

material should be removed from the front side of the trailing edge of the heavy side starting at the tip and evenly working your in towards the shaft.

Very little should be removed and it should be evenly done.

NOTE: more often then not vibration is caused by the use of a cheap import spinner than the prop.
