Any ideas on best way to start a new but very tight Brodak 049? Without the plug it turns over fine, but with the plug in its very difficult to turn over. Obviously no electric start on something this small! (Dont want any bent or broken internals!) Thanks guys.

It obviously has good compression. An electric starter shouldn't hurt it. I have a small electric starter made expressly for small engines. It was sold by Hobby Shack.

I had a similar situation with a couple of Tower 40's. I dremeled out some metal from a head to make a low compression head. One run with the low compression head and they worked fine with regular head.
I'm not familiar with the Brodak 049. If it uses a regular glow plug you could put an extra gasket under the glow plug to lessen comprssion. If it has head gaskets, could put some more in.

Good idea. Look for a smaller starter (Or make one) or pad the glow plug up. Thanks :D

You could also try heating up the cylinder with a heat gun for maybe 5 seconds to loosen it up before starting.
GO COX!
