Running old Gilbert Engines

Postby cjr2007 » Tue Oct 15, 2013 7:55 pm

Hello all!

This is my first post, and I appreciate your patience. I have a NOS set of Gilbert 0.074 and 0.11 model airplane engines. The 0.074 runs well, but it is very hard to get started. I would say it runs once every 5-6 attempts, but it is very clean. Glow plug is fine, running 25% nitro with "high" castor oil content. Any thoughts? Also, while discussing here, the 0.11 is a little dirty, haven't tried running it yet. Should I dis-assemble and clean before running? I have heard of people boiling the engines in dish-water detergent water on the stove. Thanks!!
