BENT HEAD FINS

Postby boz » Sun Nov 28, 2004 7:15 pm

Can anyone give me some advice please? I have an old HI-Max 91 British 4-stroke with three head fins bent. I want to straighten them but feel they will snap off. Is there a way of doing this that reduces the risk of them breaking? Thanks.

Best l can suggest as l have done in the past is to squeeze a kitchen knife in between them and work them a bit. What metal?????? Depends probably on it if it cracks or not.

Fins

If it has cast aluminum fins it may be very hard to do without breaking them . Soft aluminum or steel(O&R) I have good luck with by using a special pair of a "Duck bill" type of pliers that I ground the jaws down to a little over a 1/16th inch thick & used it to grab the bent fin & work it slowly. Good luck ! MAX H.
