3.5 k&b engine help please new to building

Postby Cornugget09 » Sat Feb 20, 2010 10:51 pm

I recieved a boat, motor and alot of remotes for a christmas present awhile back, and i have no information on this boat,or engine. I am looking to rebuild it into a boat i can use at my summer cabin. I have the model
3.5cc (.21 cu.in.)
Part No. 8907
I honestly had to look up the information on this engine and i would like some pointers and help making this thing run because my mom is trying to sell it/throw it out. For the sake of the boat/engine can i get some help and pointers on what kind of fuel, oil, gas tanks, remote controls, anything to get this thing to run, it is a goal of mine to get it running by summer. i have no clue on how to start this, or where. please help

thank you

One thing you should look into is the location of a club close by. Hands on help from a hobbyist is the best. Maybe someone on here can direct you to a club? Anyone?

The Seattle Model Yacht Club is an excellent club. Check them out. I raced against them for years.

It would help to know what brand and kind of 21 you have. There are many different types including outboards, inboards, and several different brands.

The K&B 3.5cc outboard is water cooled and runs well on 25% or higher nitro fuel. Great motors and will last a very long time if treated well.

The higher the nitro the shorter the lifespan. 25% is themax I'd use for a sport application. I'd stick to 15%.

I was running the Byron 25% fuel and would add one ounce of Sig AA castor per jug. Worked great.

No I don't. There is another club in the Seattle area. PSMBC. Puget Sound Model Boat Club. Try looking for them.

I think Jerry Dunlap who was a big time boater up here was in that one. He is the guy that designed the first big Tunnel Hull that won all the races for years. Used a K&B 3.5 Outboard. He wrote for Model Bulider for a few years.
