older 7.5 K /B Outboard Problems

Postby The Intimadator » Wed Mar 30, 2011 7:28 pm

Hi everyone I have an older 7.5 outboard motor that I can not keep running!
I start it put it in the water and it stalls.
It will not idle in the water.
The motor is at least 10 years old if not more than that!
The serial number is / model # is A0008747
I am thinking that maybe not enough compression,
Does anyone know where I can get parts for this.
eg. piston and sleeve etc.

Sounds like the prop is too big.

Is the prop rotating the proper way? The outboard motors all use a reverse rotation crank and when looking down on the starter cone the motor should spin clockwise.

I noticed you a using the plastic prop shipped with the engine. I also noticed it is broken. Purchase a balanced Octura 447 3 blade or 450 2 blade prop and start there. I would also run the needle all the way in as far as it will go and then back it out five turns as a starting point. It should be very rich at this point. If still lean, replace all of your fuel lines and make sure your pressure line is connected and all fittings are tight. Once you get it running rich and can make a few laps start leaning 1/4 turn at a time until it comes alive. Good luck.

HOW OLD IS THE LAD? LET ME REMIND YOU THAT THE BOATS WE HAVE AREN'T $20.00 WALMART SPECIALS PLUS THESE BOATS CAN BE SICK WITH SPEED. SO I QUESS THE QUESTION FOR YOU GRAMPA IS, WILL HE BE ABLE TO REACT WITHOUT PANICING WHEN ON THE WATER? EVERY TIME MY HULL TOUCHES THE WATER PEOPLE JUST INSTANTLY APPEAR FROM NO WHERE. YOU HAVE WHAT SOUNDS LIKE A COUPLE REALLY NICE SET UPS THAT DIDN'T COME CHEAP, NITRO IS NOT ONLY $$$$ BUT INSTANTLY FAST WITHOUT WARNING.

Only A suggestion but take the motor apart and make sure the crank pin didn't come loose from the crankshaft. You will see a rub mark on the connecting rod if it did.

And use a beryllium prop or stainless they work so much better. Your boat should be fast as hell. :)
