3.5K&B outbooard w/ new gold carb

I bought this engine new in the box from a guy on ebay. Nothing is missing it was truely brand new. It did come with the black carb but I swapped it out for the bigger gold carb. My problem is that I can't seem to get it running. Starter is hooked up the right way changed my glow plug for a brand new one the only adjustmet on the carb is the bent arm that is set at 4 turns out and the fuel is flowing. Also, how open should the barrel be when at idle. Engine turns plug gets hot but never fires up and runs fuel runs out the exhaust. Please help me figure this out. :(

Black carb makes me wonder how old this is. By black carb do you mean a black plastic Perry carb or the black metal K&B carb that looks exactly like the gold one?

You are spinning it cloclwise looking down at the flywheel, right?

Fuel shouldn't "run out the exhaust". You may have it toooooo rich.

As for how far open at idle. Not hardley a sliver. Maybe the space it you stuck a sewing needle in and close the barrel on it.

Cylinder may be in the wrong way. But you should still get a pop.
