3.5 outboard Identification

Postby mrprism » Wed Aug 17, 2005 9:17 pm

I have a 3.5 K&B outboard from approx. 1988-1989. The number near where the steering mount is J0047017. It has a black carb on it that says K&B on it. I remember trying to get this engine broken in way back when and gave up frustrated. It may be I was younger and more impatient back then, but I really think it was hard to tune. Anyway, I'm ready to give it another go but am wondering if there is a better and easier to tune carb? Is there someting I need to know? If its that difficult again I'll probably never try it again. You mentioned the "gold" carb in a number of other posts, is this the way to go? Thanks for your help.

The gold carb is the same design as the black one. Your carb should work fine.
