Old K&B 3.5 OB #8382

Postby gallobg » Wed May 10, 2006 1:20 pm

I have an old K&B outboard (slide-valve throttle exhaust!), model no.
8382. I need some parts, but do not know the current part numbers.
The engine is too old and doesn't show up in your online database. I
have also not found the information on your forum boards.

I need:

- Steering arm (I think the old part no. was 8441 -- will modern part

- Prop shaft assembly (I think the old part no. was 8574 -- will
modern part # 57-8901 work?)

Regarding the shaft assembly, the threaded shaft is exposed a distance
of 5/8" from the inside portion of the drive dog. I think modern
shafts have exposed threads for a distance of about 3/4". This is
important as I would like to run a modern prop on the boat, like an
Octura x440, but there is not enough threaded shaft to secure the tail
nut properly.

- Throttle tube clamp -- I don't know if there are any modern
equivalents to this, but I'm looking for some sort of way to secure
the plastic sleeve of the throttle linkage to the outboard.

Thank you for all of your help!

The later steering arm is nylon and will fit the older engine.

The early outboard had a clamped in prop shaft assembly.
New style will not fit. You must replace the entire lower unit.

The pick up tube location has not changed.
