Modern prop for old K&B outboard #8382

Postby gallobg » Fri May 19, 2006 9:05 am

I have an old K&B outboard (slide-valve throttle exhaust!), model no.
8382. The engine is too old and doesn't show up in your online database. I
have also not found the information on your forum boards.

I want to use modern props on the engine, but am finding that the prop shaft is too short. The threaded portion of my prop shaft measures approx. 5/8" from the inside of the drive dog to the outer end. I think modern ones measure around 3/4".

I have an old prop (small, low pitch, probably came with the engine) that has a hub that measures approx. 11/32" long. When I put it on the prop shaft I am able to put on a hex nut and the tail nut securely.

I also have a modern Octura x440 prop that has a hub that measures approx. 17/32" long. When I put that on the prop shaft, I only have about 2-3 threads showing - certainly not enough to secure the prop!

Does anyone know of any modern props with short hubs? I fear that my only solution is to buy a whole new lower unit for the engine, but would like to skip that if I could.

Thanks!

Your engine is about 25 years old. The least you can replace is the lower halves and the prop shaft assy.
