The needle valve on a 1973 (?) K&B .61 series 75, #6525 with a Perry carb series 72-B did not come with a ratchet to maintain settings, but instead uses spring tension to hold it in place. It's unreliable, even when the spring is stretched to increase tension. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

What happens with the Perry's that used the spring is the circlip (right next to the mixture disk) that the spring rests against rotates in the groove. You can solve this by squeezing the last coil of the spring closed next to the clip. This will put spring resistance on the diameter rather than relying on the circlip.

I have the same engine, same issue, but I put a piece of fuel tubing over the spring in between the idle disk and needle value. Any issue with this solution?
