K&B .61 Series 75 cat#6535 with Perry Pump

Postby mdomokos » Mon Apr 23, 2007 7:49 am

I finally, after 33 years, decided to run this engine. It was new, I broke it in and it flew great for about 10 flights. Then it started to lean out and then the pump became intermitent and unreliable. So, per the directions, I bypassed it and contected a fuel tube loop to itself. My question is: can I get a new pump? if not, should I just leave it alone? if so, should I keep the fuel tube loop or can I just leave it open. Also, if I can't replace the pump, would it be worth it to just get a plain back cover. And, are those available still? Part number for that is suppose to be 6509 but I can't find it on your website.

Back cover numbers are 21-6101 or 21-6102

I would just leave it.

Ok, sounds like leaving it would be ok, should I continue to keep the fuel tube loop or can I just leave it open. Also, does the lack of a pump now mean less power?

Sorry, one more question. The engine was brand new when I started to run it. Now it has brown scoring on the head. Is this from the pump leaning it out? What damage may have been caused? It seems to shake the whole airplane now when it idles but runs fine at top speed.
