K&B ob 7.5 no throttle response

Postby etctrl » Mon Jul 02, 2007 3:07 pm

I have an 8701 which starts and idles well, but there is little to no response when opening the throttle.

I have recently replaced the piston/cylinder/connecting rod and all gaskets.

I've checked for obvious air leaks and even experimented with a new remote needle carb, but no improvement.

Any suggestions on what I might try next?

Be sure throttle is opening correct direction

Does it die or slowly come up to rpm's?

Hi, thanks for your reply.

Yes, the throttle is opening in the correct direction and closes to idle clockwise as shown.

What's puzzling is that it fires right up and idles around in the water great but has little to no rpm increase when opening the barrel as if, with the exception of being able to adjust the idle setting, the carburetor is not even there.

Answering your second question more directly; the motor starts right into a proper idle and continues running until I cut off the air intact (capping carb with thumb).

Any chance of having the sleeve mis-aligned and the ports not matching up to the case?

It looks ok, with the largest port facing straight down toward the exhaust, and the two ports in the middle of the four smaller ports facing straight toward the carb.

For the rebuild I used the tubular connecting rod 16-8702 vs. the standard 16-8701. They appear to be identical except for the tubular fabrication, is this correct?

Solved. Turns out the remote needle valve assembly (high speed mixture) was plugged.
