Will Sport Muffler fit the old ringed .61?

Postby rainedave » Sun Aug 05, 2007 6:24 am

Hi all.

I need a replacement muffler for my old K&B ringed .61. Does the newer Sport muffler have the same bolt spacing? Also, is it quieter than the old style .61 muffler?

Thanks,

I should probably clarify my question.

I am asking about the K&B Sport muffler part #30-6102/6179 that comes on the current #6170 ABC .61. Will it fit the old .61's?

Thanks,

Well, I think I've answered my own question. Upon close inspection of photos of the three K&B .61's currently available, it appears that from just above the muffler bolts down the cases are identical (externally). The differences are apparently with the upper cylinder portion. So, assuming that's true, all three mufflers should be interchangeable with all three engines.

Now, my next concern is whether the new Sport muffler is quieter than the old style muffler. No sense in ordering one if it isn't.

Does anyone here have any info on that matter?

Thanks again,

The difference is the old muffler used 5-40 screws and the new one uses 6-32 so the holes on the crankcase need to be enlarged slightly. Also the screws are longer on the old one so if you order the new muffler just tell us and we will supply the longer screws at no extra charge.
