torquing head bolts on .40 marine engine

Postby ericmcrory » Sun Apr 19, 2009 10:22 pm

Is there a torque pattern to tighten the head bolts when reasembling the head? (K&B .40 marine inboard engine). What about amount of torque?

Insert screws into head and tighten until they just touch the head. Then tighten them in the cross pattern. Tighten the screws only slightly, repeating the sequence a number of times until the screws are tight to about 5.2 inch lbs.

Can you recommend a not too expensive torque wrench for hobby usage but adequate for small engines?

I've never used a torque wrench on my hobby motors and have never had an issue. You just need to use reasonable force.

Garrett Wade sells one that I have used for a long time. You can see it here: http://www.garrettwade.com/adjustable-t ... /08G01.03/
