Identification

Postby Tycare » Mon Jun 15, 2015 12:36 pm

Good evening,

I would like to know if someone could help me identified this motor?

The only inscription are K&B and 3.5 ( for the engine size in cc I guess)

I have no experience at all in gas engine and I'm a little bit lost.

I would like to find the spare parts drawing for this model.

I'm looking also for the adaptor to be able to install an electric motor.

I found one but they indicate that this will not work with "OS lower units".

What would mean OS?

Thank you for your help.

Motor is a K&B 3.5cc outboard that's been modified. The lower unit has been cut away to clear a Magic Muffler tuned pipe. A venturi with needle valve on the crankcase and a carb used on the end of the tuned pipe as an exhaust throttle. Interesting setup, but the motors run fine with a black or red carb with this pipe.

The nipple coming off the motor mount lug would be crank pressure to the fuel tank for more consistent fuel flow. Most used exhaust pressure instead. There is a piece of tubing missing from the water pickup to the cylinder head.

These motors spin clock-wise and you need to make sure your electric starter spins in the right direction.

OS is a Japanese motor manufacturer, K&B is all American. Different brands.

Thank you very much for your help.

I checked the motor and there are three of them: 3.5cc, 3.5cc SS and 3.5cc SX.

Would you know which one it is?

Looks like one of the earlier standard 3.5cc models to me. I still have parts from when I ran these outboards and I also have a NIB 3.5cc inboard stashed away with a Prather exhaust throttle.
