HP 61 GC Slide Carb Operation

Postby tutelar-rc » Tue Oct 02, 2007 9:11 pm

I have an HP 61 GC with Slide Carb.

I get 12,800 rpm with an 11x8 prop, main needle open 6 turns, slide open just past 1/2 way, idle needle clears slide when slide open all the way.

When I open the main needle more, the engine does not become rich (4 cycling). When I close the needle below 5 1/2 turns, I lose rpm.

I have cleaned the carb to ensure that there is no blockage...

My questions:
1. Can my needle setting be considered normal?
2. Is the slide carb open 1/2 way considered to be full throttle?

Thanks for your assistance...

Two other items that are probably relevant:
1. I am not running a pressurized tank
2. Engine idles very well at 2,800 rpm

You must run pressure to the tank and the slide should open all the way. You will have to research why it is not opening.

The slide will open all the way.

When I open it all the way while running the motor, the motor immediately loses rpm and will stop if I do not put the slide down below 1/2 open - seems to be starving for fuel...

The pressure should solve that.

THANKS! Pressure solved the problem.

I have finished tuning the engine and have it back in my Schluter Heli-Boy - runs GREAT now! :D :D :D :D :D :D

Head temperature after 10 minute flight is 183 deg F. Is this the right operating temperature?
