Johnson .35 C/L Engines

Postby m1fan » Thu Feb 19, 2015 10:19 am

I noticed that MECOA appears to own the rights and tooling to these old engines and was wanting to put my vote in for their production..... I would buy at least 2 for a twin Tigercat I would like to build for Nostalgia or Modern Navy Carrier flying. The model I'm looking to build is specifically for them (http://www.outerzone.co.uk/plan_details.asp?ID=4727) and even though they don't have throttles I believe I can make them work! I would also like to add that I would rather buy brand new instead of used and since Fox no longer sells engines or accessories you would corner the market. Thanks for your consideration.

I also just realized this is the wrong forum to post this in, so if you have to move it to a more general forum I will understand.

Which version? The tooling we have is for the last version with the big ball bearings. We are considering making new molds for an earlier version.

MECOA,

To be honest, I have no experience with Johnson engines but have been told by some old timer control line fliers that they were a great engine in their day. So, as far as the version goes, what are the differences between the two? Is one more powerful or more reliable than the other? I know the first engines in 1956 won 28 Nats trophies, which is very impressive. So maybe the old version wouldn't be so bad of an engine to produce. On the other hand, you already have the molds and machinery for the newest version, so that would cut down on your investment in R&D........which might make more business sense. Either way, you can put me down for at least 2 of them initially and possibly more in the future........I guess I just like this size of engine!

MECOA,

Do you know what the price will be (I'll take it with the knowledge that it is subject to change if you only have an estimate) and the eta to their release? Thanks.

MECOA,

I was just wondering if this engine was in development as of yet and if there is an eta for the market? Thanks for your response.

I would still be interested in at least two......should I wait for your engines to be produced or should I try and find some used engines elsewhere? Thanks again.
