VT 49 stalling

Postby JSRagman » Tue Nov 08, 2005 10:29 am

I have a VT 49 that runs great untill you add angle of attack at which time it dies. I have tried different fuel, glow plugs, checking carb sealing, etc. I have checked the carb for fish mouth in the needle seat with only improvement in idle preforance. Any other ideas would be great.

Do you have the pressure lines hooked up correctly?

it shows it here
http://www.mecoa.com/hp/vt/guide.htm

You have to have 20% oil in the fuel.

If the wrong plug was ever installed in the engine it could have ruined the valve. No r/c idle bar or 4 stroke plugs.

Just standard long plugs. Look in the plug hole for any sign of the plug hitting the valve sleeve.

Yes, I followed the instructions for break in and even had others in my flying club double check. The main problems is I can not get the engine to run if i raise the engine up from normal horizontal postition. I can get more angle of attach if enrichen the engine. About 5 turn out from peak I can get about 45 degrees up from horizontal before it dies.

I am use fuels with at least 20% caster and also the correct length plugs.

If the valve is worn it will do this. How far from the back of the engine is the front of the tank?

Within inches of the back of the engine. This has been happening since new.

Is this an Austrian or US made engine?

You may want to check the valve timing
http://www.mecoa.com/faq/vt/timing.htm

also if you run too big a prop you may have this problem. Try it with a 11x5 prop.
