Hi Brian

I doubt I can ship any to you with all the regulations etc. Are you able to mix your own? It's not that hard. If you have access to some lamp oil, ether and some methyl ethyl ketone peroxide (body fill hardner) it is quite possible. These are the contents I use with success.

Try Sigma chemicals in Balcatta - they can supply ether (one of these days I'm gonna "bite the bullet" and get me a 20L drum of the stuff because although I use very little of it I find it very hard to obtain where I live). I use kero from the supermarket and castor oil from Ace hobbies in Midland to mix my fuel.

Recently I tried adding 10ml of M.E.K.P. (methylethylketone peroxide otherwise known as polyester fibreglass resin hardner/catalyst) to 500ml of fresh fuel and it seems to make significant improvement to the smoothness of the engine running. I will definitely do this again. A word of caution though - M.E.K.P. is nasty stuff! DO NOT GET IT ON YOUR SKIN OR IN YOUR EYES!!!! It stings (my) skin and will permanently damage/blind eyes!!! Ask the seller for a safety data sheet. Flush with copious amounts of water if you do get it on you - might be a good idea to only handle the stuff near a sink where you can reach the taps with your eyes closed if need be.

Fibreglass and resin sales can supply M.E.K.P as could any other fibreglass supplier or hardware store.

Why take a risk with MEKP as a Cetane booster with model diesels ,when an extremely effective substitute for Amyl Nitrate is easily available in Australia. It's Amsoil Cetane Booster and it's 100% Hexyl Nitrate (2-EHN).

It should be available locally in serious fullsize diesel suppliers. The distributor in Queensland will send it through the mail, and it's reasonably priced.

Just Google it.

Thanks for the info! I tried for ages locally and on the net to find a cetane booster and the nearest I could find was "Redline" branded product which would have worked I think but was only available in 20 litres drums or bigger! I'd much rather use something safer than MEKP. I'm gonna "Google" the Amsoil stuff now :D

The national distributor is in Queensland at:

But I'd be amazed if it wasn't available locally. The small container lasts for years at concentrations of 1-1.5% in standard diesel fuel. It's every bit as good a ISO-propyl nitrate, the other alternative. Sigma should have it but it's about five times the price.

I ordered two bottles of the Amsoil cetane improver and they arrived yesterday. I had to get it from the Queensland supplier as there is no West Aussie supplier it turns out.

Both bottles including postage (I am in Albany W.A. the diagonal opposite corner of the country to where Queensland is) came to $49.91 - the actual postage cost was $18.00. Not super-duper cheap but I now have enough to last forever given the amount of diesel I mix up. A many years long quest to find some cetane improver has ended. Thanks!

if u use small amounts fuel ,surley a good hobby shop in perth has ready mixed diesel fuel in 1 litre bottles!!I know there a big following of control line flyers in WA that use diesel engines!

one drop of mek accidental in your eye and you loose 50% of your vision a second drop any yu loose 50% OF WHAT VISION U HAVE LEFT ,why use it in a engine that going to spray it all around your face ????

On the rare occasions I've seen diesel fuel in the hobby shops it has been an obscene price, stored badly (read ether evaporated) and not mixed in the ratios that I like so I haven't bought any for well over 20 years. This and I can get castor oil and kerosene without any problem and until relatively recently I was getting ether through a close family member who is a qualified pharmacist (at cost) so mixing my own to my prefered mix was the logical way to go. I think this is what most if not all of the team racing guys do to - I've not heard of them buying premixed stuff ever.
